The Origin

"The Universe is a bitch, or I'm being groomed for greatness." — That's what he's been telling himself (and his wife) for 20 years. Every time he encountered a new obstacle, that phrase was the coping mechanism. Turns out, both were true.

2002

Medical Assistant → Insurance Sales

2-year degree. Drew blood, gave immunizations, took x-rays. Delivered pizzas. Waited tables. Delivered orthopedic rehab machines. Signed up for every MLM on earth. Then a friend said: "I talked to a guy at an insurance place today and I think you might be good at it." Commission-only. Cold calls. Personality test. Showed up to the interview on a purple Kawasaki Ninja 500 with a Ricky Martin haircut. Failed the licensing exam four times. Passed on the fifth — hungover, in scrubs and Birkenstocks. 72%.

2002 — Day 1

$1,000 on Day One

First field day. Raining. Rode the borrowed Ninja. Trainer "Handsome Tim" got reassigned to "Dirty Dan the Donut Man" — a legend who drove a brown Oldsmobile fruit cart and gave hugs instead of closes. By end of day: 6 sales, $2K in commissions. Josh's half = $1,000. Two weeks of waiting tables. He let the restaurant staff know that night.

2005 — 2008

$265K at 25. Started MFG at 28.

Broke the branch production record. Finished 12th out of 4,200 agents. Built a team of 24 producers in 18 months. Got married. Made $100K+ in team overrides. Got fed up with the politics. Left to start Millang Financial Group on June 1, 2008 — wife 6 months pregnant with their first child.

2008 — 2018

10 Years Building MFG

Built a retail agency from scratch. Medicare, Life, Annuity, Fee-Based. 1/3 revenue from each. Recruited and trained producers. Built MFGProducers.com — a proprietary tech platform for lead integration, CRM, sales cycle, and commission management. 5,000 clients. The first version of The Machine, before it had a name.

~2018

The Whiplash

Every producer left or quit. Bought out the vested recurring revenue from all of them. Sold half the equity from two commercial properties. Left with $1MM in office buildings, 5,000 clients (actually 2,000 after the Medicare audit), $500K in recurring, and zero new business revenue. The brain damage from managing green pea commission salespeople for a decade had taken its toll.

2018 — 2019

The Pivot: Became The Mogul Maker

Realized the tech and service model he'd built was more valuable than his production. Started talking to peers, IMOs, agencies — nobody had solutions for the problems he'd already solved. Rebuilt ProDash as a SaaS platform. Pioneered white-labeled customer service. Started selling to the industry instead of selling to clients. "The time was now to change direction and become a B2B firm."

2020

ProDash Explodes: $750K In, $3MM Out

400% ROI in 10 months. The method worked. ProDash+Branding, ProDash+Service, ProDash+Market — a full suite for IMOs, agencies, and producers nationally. The Producer Dashboard Suite. Everything was working.

SMFD Day

Funding pulled. ProDash collapsed. The day that divides everything into "before" and "after." Five years of building, gone in an email. Still Standing.

Still Standing

Rebuilt the business from the ashes while simultaneously being whiplashed back into producing revenue to keep the lights on. Every time he tried to build, the business pulled him back to sell. Every time he sold, the business needed him to build. The cycle that created the bottleneck. The bottleneck that created the motivation. The motivation that created The Machine.

Concept — Claude.AI

Started using Claude as a thinking partner. Strategy sessions. Business model discussions. 20 years of domain knowledge poured into AI conversations — watching it synthesize patterns he'd been too close to see. The concepts that became The Machine started taking shape.

Late Q4 2025

App Builder — Cursor + Claude

Concept became code. Cursor + Claude took 20 years of business logic and started building it into real applications on Google's infrastructure. ~100,000 lines of GAS — CRM, campaigns, compliance, commissions, document processing, data pipelines, web apps. 15+ engines. The first Machine, before it had a name.

January 2026

Platform Architect — Claude Code

Everything changed. Claude Code wasn't a tool — it was a co-founder. Full terminal access. Git. Deployments. Multi-file architecture. The GA (General Agent) pattern emerged: JDM says what he wants, Claude Code executes, spawns parallel builders, validates, deploys. In one month, the GAS platform tripled to 400,000 lines across all engines. For the first time in 20 years, the builder had a builder.

March 2026

The Re-Platform. 400K → 80K.

400,000 lines of GAS re-platformed into an 80,000-line fighter jet. 5x less code. Infinitely more capable.
